does the gas have to be turned off after each use (like a bbq) in order to avoid leaks? can it be installed indoor (e.g. a shed) and vented outside?

The only time we can get ours to light and come on is when my husband uses a screwdriver and unscrews the screw in the little tube and takes the spring out. What are we doing wrong? This is my 2nd one and I have had so much trouble that we are getting

INFORMATION ON THIS UNIT SAYS THAT THE WATER IS HEATED 45 DEGREES ABOVE INCOMING AT 1.5 GPM. sHOULD i ASSUME THAT THIS WOULD BE THE MAX TEMP POSSIBLE AND THE TEMP KNOBS ARE THERE TO LOWER THE TEMP IF NEEDED?
